Beta Phi Mu "was founded in 1948 by a group of leading librarians and library educators to recognize and encourage scholastic achievement among library and information studies students. ... Eligibility for membership in Beta Phi Mu is by invitation of the faculty from an American Library Association accredited professional degree program." Individuals who have been selected as Beta Phi Mu candidates are inducted at the School’s spring graduation ceremony. This year’s induction will take place on May 5 at the School’s ceremony, which follows the University’s commencement and will be held in the student lounge on the 3rd floor of the Shepard Library. All Beta Phi Mu candidates, including those from the Fall 2006 graduating class, are invited to attend.
